Welcome Football Festival to be held in Glasgow
Glasgow will be holding its first Welcome Football Festival on Tuesday 19th December at Toryglen Regional Football Centre. This festival will encourage and support the integration of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants into life in Glasgow, by coming together to play one of the city's favourite sports. Mixed international teams will play a mini-tournament, and celebrate with a medal ceremony and food at the end of the afternoon.
The event is being organised by a subgroup of the Glasgow Integration Forum and has been organised by Glasgow City Council, Glasgow's Health and Social Care Partnership, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Partick Thistle Charitable Trust, Govan Community Project, Maryhill Integration Network. and Glasgow Life who are providing this wonderful venue. We also have support and players from United Glasgow FC, Afghan United FC, Edu Sport and teams from a number of Third Sector Organisations such as the Red Cross and YCSA.
In addition to the football, a number of stalls will be available to inform participants about relevant services across the city. This will be a fun-filled and exciting event and we hope to have plenty of spectators as well as players - everyone is welcome to attend this free event. The games start at 1pm and finish at 4pm, with food to follow.
