Youth services are set to expand across North Glasgow thanks to additional Fairer Scotland Funding from the Local Community Planning Partnerships.
April McCauley from North Glasgow Community Planning Partnership support team explained: “This additional Fairer Scotland Funding will allow youth services to be expanded across the north allowing existing youth service providers new opportunities to work in partnership to provide new and better services across a wider geographical area than before.”
A recent Youth Service Mapping Exercise, carried out by North Glasgow Youth Stakeholders Group (NGYSG) identified gaps in youth provision across the area. This additional funding will allow partners to fill these gaps and include initiatives such as:
- Ruchill Youth Project, whilst working in partnership with other local youth service providers and local housing associations, will now be able to provide its services along the Maryhill Corridor and into Cadder.
- The Out and About Club has received additional resources to provide its much needed service to young disabled
people in the north east area.
- Toonspeak Young People’s Theatre will provide additional drama workshops across the north.
- Perthshire Youth Development will continue to deliver its music workshops in the Possilpark area while also expanding its work into the Sighthill area.
- Young Possil Futures will provide additional services in Lambhill as well as new services in Parkhouse whilst also making connections in the Milton area.
Bailie Ellen Hurcombe, Chair of Maryhill, Kelvin and Canal Local Community Planning Partnership Board said: “This is excellent news for youth service providers and young people living in areas where youth service provision has been very low. NGYSG is pleased that it has been able, with the help of Fairer Scotland Funding, to implement some of the recommendations within the mapping exercise so quickly"
