For 16 years Drumchapel Disabled Action 2 has provided an innovative model of care for adults with physical disabilities, enabling users to become as independent as possible through a range of meaningful activities.
They have worked to increase the numbers involved in physical activity and reduce smoking through chair based programmes; improving skills for employment and enhancing service users aspirations and confidence through networking with other agencies and providing support and guidance on how to be an active voice in their local community.
They provide tuition on computer skills, confidence building for women, men's health issues and 1-1 tuition on literacy, numeracy and computer skills. There are plans to try to diversify by extending the healthy eating café by opening a meals delivery service to those most in need, ensuring those; elderly, infirm or have a healthy cooked meal placed down to them by a fully disclosed carer.
The service is also looking to develop an intergrated youth group in the evenings.
