The North Glasgow Addictions Programme has been developed specifically to deal with addiction issues affecting North Glasgow. Based on an extensive community consultation exercise commissioned by the North Glasgow Addictions Forum, which brings together all the service providers and agencies involved in providing support and guidance around issues of addiction including alcohol and drug misuse, to help identify gaps in service provision with a view to developing a programme to meet the specific needs of North Glasgow residents.
The programme implements a four pronged approach to tackling each target group. This includes:
- working with young people who are currently demonstrating high risk behaviour;
- supporting parents whose parenting skills have been compromised by addiction;
- providing more support to families and carers affected by substance misuse; and
- undertaking a wider awareness raising strategy on the devastating effects of substance misuse – especially around alcohol abuse.
