FIRE REACH & JUNIOR FIRE REACH (SATURDAY CLUB)

Glasgow Community Planning Partnership supports Strathclyde Fire and Rescue's efforts to make Glasgow a safe place to live, learn, work and play - particularly for children and young people.

In order to tackle problems with hydrant vandalism, fire-setting, hoax calls, attacks on fire crews etc. Strathclyde Fire and Rescue started the Fire Reach Programme in Easterhouse which targeted educating young people about fire safety by bringing them from schools into the fire stations and taking part in serious but fun exercises to learn of the dangers.

The project was so successful in cutting down the numbers of adverse incidents, therefore not just saving money but also probably saving lives and preventing injury, that it has now been rolled out across the whole of Glasgow East and has won many awards such as Evening Times Community Champions, APSE and COSLA Excellence Awards.
