GEEZA BREAK

Geeza Break is a voluntary organisation based in the East End of Glasgow.  Established in 1992 as a registered charity the organisation has been providing respite and support services to vulnerable children and families for over 19 years.

Geeza Break offer the following services:

Respite Care Service

Children are cared for in the homes of fully vetted and approved respite carer's from a few hours to overnight care.  These sessions give children positive family experiences, help to improve their confidence, self esteem and social interaction skills.

Respite Sitter Service

Fully vetted and assessed Respite Sitters go to the family home to provide age-appropriate learning, personal development for children, while also giving the parent(s) time to themselves to de-stress / look after their own health or to spend quality time with other family members.  This service is provided in the evenings, week ends (24/7) when other childcare services are unavailable.

Side by Side Family Support

This offers an intensive one to one person centred support to families affected by:

  • Addictions
  • Mental Health (mild to moderate)
  • Crisis
  • Homelessness
  • Abuse i.e. sexual, physical and emotional etc
  • Poverty

The aim is to assist with preventing / reducing statutory involvement by working with clients to develop and encourage the following skills and qualities;

  • Confidence and self esteem
  • Parenting Skills
  • Personal social development
  • Budgeting skills
  • Health and well being
  • Family routines
  • Day to day living skills

We have a trained member of the family support team implementing the Triple P Programme and another family support worker runs the "get cooking get shopping programme".

Toffee Club (time out for families in the East End

Primary school children 5-12 years are cared for during school holidays.  The service is delivered in partnership with East End Mobile Playteam to provide activities that meet the individual needs of children, during school holidays the toffee club keeps children safe and in a supported environment in which to play.

Kinship Care

This service is delivered Glasgow city wide and can be accessed via FASS (Families Addiction Support Services) this is an innovative partnership and the link worker offers support, advice and information to Kinship carer's.

The link worker can offer respite services and advice on childcare issues in partnership with Geeza Break.  Kinship carer's eligible for the service are those who live within Glasgow Local Authority and who are responsible for a family member's child due to parental alcohol or drug addiction.
