Schools Football in Glasgow

The initiative aims to develop schools football in Glasgow, to encourage young people in the City to participate in activities that improve health and physical well-being. The initiative is targetted at all children of school age in Glasgow.

The initiative will support a range of programmes including:

  • under 13 league and cup football
  • 'SoccerG' - Girls secondary football
  • 'SoccerK' - Primary school age football
  • Queens Park programme - coaching sessions at Lesser Hampden
  • Coaching programme - teachers, volunteers and senior pupils given an opportunity to get involved in coaching, sports leadership and refereeing porgrammes

The programme is managed by Education Services at Glasgow City Council, with assistance from a range of agencies such as the SFA, Culture & Sport Glasgow, Queens Park, Celtic & Rangers Football Clubs. A total of £100,000 was secured via the Community Planning partnership to contribute to the £200,000 total running costs for 2009/10.

Activities are offered across the City, with close links made with local school learning communities. Links are also being made with local community based football clubs.
